Job description

Graphene, as well as many other 2D layered materials, has promising applications in electronics and energy storage (batteries and supercapacitors), benefiting from its good electrical and thermal conductivity, high optical transparency, outstanding mechanical strength and flexibility, extremely large specific surface area, and excellent solution manufacturability. In particular, liquid-phase exfoliated graphene provides scalable and cost-effective solutions to many industry applications.

The candidate will participate in a collaborative research project with industry, and will focus on developing effective techniques to coat thick graphene films (up to 200 microns thick) onto metal substrates to improve their thermal conductance and/or insulating substrates (e.g, paper, plastics) to improve their electrical conductance for electronics and energy storage applications. The coatings should be derived from graphene inks (or liquid-phase graphene) to minimize the production cost and enable scaling up for industry manufacturing.


The applicant must have a PhD degree (not older than three years from the last applicaction date) in material science and engineering, electronics, or applied physics. A good scientific publication record is necessary. Good knowledge and experience in the following fields are favorable:

  • Fabrication and characterization of large-area thick film coatings
  • Electrochemical fabrication and characterization
  • Scalable fabrication of graphene and graphene/polymer composites
  • Thermal conductivity measurement of graphene films


Besides, good experience in industry and the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with specialists from other disciplines are merits.
