Job description

The postdoctor will work in the project PROMETHEUS (Plasma drag ReductiOn METHodology for effective Energy Usage) which aims towards reducing drag on heavy duty vehicles by using plasma actuators to control separation on the front corner (A-pillar) especially under yawed conditions. The first part of the project will be a fundamental study of the interaction of the plasma actuator wall jet (electric wind) with the incoming boundary layer when the actuators are used as streamwise vortex generators. Various geometrical parameters of the actuators (streamwise length and spanwise spacing) should be investigated to be able to optimize plasma actuator arrays as well as to investigate whether a pulsed mode operation with a suitable duty cycle and pulse frequency could be advantageous. In a second part of the project the methodology will be applied to a generic truck geometry and direct drag measurements should be performed in a wind tunnel. Postdoctoral position for one year, can be extended with a second year. 


We are looking for a candidate with a doctoral education (completed in the last three years or soon to be completed) in experimental aerodynamics/fluid dynamics with documented experience of using plasma actuators for flow control. Experience of using PIV and stereo PIV is also important to qualify for this position. Good knowledge to communicate in English orally and in writing is required.
