Job description

The main purpose of the project is to obtain and analyze molecular structural information of the premolten or quasi-liquid layer present at the surface of selected solids close to their melting points. Emphasis will be made in correlating the temperature-dependent molecular properties with the macroscopic adhesion force on a solid support; the research direction is exemplified by Liljeblad-Furó-Tyrode, Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys. 19 305-317 (2017). Molecular information of the typically nanometer-sized premolten layer will be obtained using confocal Raman microscopy and various forms of NMR spectroscopy. During the project the candidate is expected to reach state-of-the-art competence in the above-mentioned spectroscopic tools. The project will involve collaboration with different research partners both in Sweden and abroad. The candidate will also be expected to participate in the collaborative writing of those high-impact papers that will summarize the results achieved.


Applicants should have a PhD degree in a subject relevant for the research, such as surface chemistry, physical chemistry or physics. Specific knowledge and experience in Raman spectroscopy and NMR spectroscopy are required. Good command of the English language in both its written and spoken forms.
