Biophysical chemistry with specialization in surfaces and material.

Subject description

The subject of the position is the physical chemistry of biological surfaces and materials. This includes the molecular characterization and description, design, preparation, and modification of biological surfaces and materials, and the use of surface-sensitive experimental methods for studying biomolecular interactions at interfaces. The relevant interfaces can be to bulk materials, nanoparticles, and biomacromolecules.

Duties

The appointment includes research, research supervision, and education within the subject area. The appointee is also expected to teach general chemistry and physical chemistry at basic (BSc / MSc) and advanced level within the curriculum of the School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  • been awarded a PhD or have the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve , and
  • demonstrated teaching expertise, and
  • ability to obtain funding to develop research projects and ability to lead education and research activities.

Grounds of assessment The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, appendix 2, apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is the applicant’s

  • research expertise in the subject field and ability to perform research of high international standard.
  • teaching experience and skills in chemistry and specifically in the subject field, and ability to perform high quality undergraduate and graduate teaching.
  • ability to obtain external research funding.

Of second highest importance is the applicant’s

  • ability and interest to develop and further education within the subject area at both basic, advanced, and graduate levels.
  • documented experience with research cooperation. Interest for and ability to establish research at the school both within the subject area and of interdisciplinary character.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • ability to pursue third-stream activities and provide information about research and development work.
  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equalitydocumented interpersonal and administrative skills.
