Job description

The student will join the group of Prof. Benoit Baudry who investigates the automatic synthesis of diverse variants of software components. This work aims at constantly evolving distributed software applications to prevent single points of failure. Empiricism and case studies form the core scientific foundations for this work, where we evaluate diversification technology on large, real-world software systems. This PhD thesis will investigate strategies and algorithms to automatically evolve a set of software application clones (as found when deploying multiple copies of an application stack in the cloud) into a population of diversified software components. Diversification shall occur continuously, by observation the execution condition and through automatic transformations at different levels of the software application.

The doctoral student is expected to publish in the top conferences and journals in the field of Software Engineering. The working language is English.

The Wallenberg Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is funding this PhD position. WASP is Sweden’s largest ever individual research program, and provides a platform for academic research and education, fostering interaction with Sweden’s leading technology companies. Qualifications

A suitable background for this position would be a Master of Science in Computer Science.

A specialization in software engineering is a plus. International experience and language skills are regarded as advantageous qualifications. Expertise in object-oriented programming and design is highly appreciated.

Applicants must be strongly motivated for doctoral studies, possess the ability to work independently and perform critical analysis and also possess good levels of cooperative and communicative abilities.
